Friends and family are remembering SPC David “Alex” Knapp
A 24-year-old Macomb Township war vet died of a heart attack over the weekend.
Army SPC Alex Knapp died Saturday after playing in a sled hockey game at Ferris State University. Knapp was competing in an exhibition game of sled hockey in Big Rapids on Saturday when he began to feel chest pains. Rescue workers attempted to resuscitate him but were unsuccessful.
His family said he was playing hard in hopes of competing in the next Paralympics.
Knapp was an Army police officer station in Iraq. He was on his final mission in Iraq before going on leave when he lost both legs in an IED explosion on March 14, 2008.
Last December, he moved back to Shelby Township into his own home built for him by an organization called Homes For Our Troops.
Services will be held at Wujek-Calcaterra & Sons at 54880 Van Dyke, Shelby Township, MI 48346.
